eBay CEO, John Donahoe, writes that "people the world over love the Internet - and no wonder. It creates opportunities, which in turn creates jobs and wealth...Despite our success, the high-speed Internet ecosystem in the United States is neither as robust nor as affordable as it needs to be. As a result, we\'re missing out on creating long-term economic growth opportunities in our own country."
PayPal flew merchants this week from seven states to Capitol Hill to talk about their small businesses and how PayPal is helping them to successfully transact online. Merchants from Arizona, Illinois, Maryland, Maine, North Carolina, Texas and Utah each met with their Senators and Representatives to discuss their businesses and the safety that PayPal offers to work online. As part of its effort to craft a national broadband plan, the FCC released a survey that showed one-third of Americans are not connected to high-speed broadband Internet services. The primary reasons these 93 million Americans cite for not having broadband service include affordability and a lack of digital skills needed to take advantage of the technology, the FCC found. The European Commission has recently drafted legislation allowing suppliers (brand owners) to require that distributors have a retail storefront before they can sell online.
